Pro Tools 101 – Introduction to Pro Tools

 

This course covers the basic principles you will need to understand to complete a Pro Tools project, from initial setup to final mixdown. The course focuses on Pro Tools 10 software and covers a multitude of new functions and feature enhancements. Whether your project involves recording of live instruments, MIDI sequencing of software synthesizers or audio looping, this course will give you the basic steps to succeed.

PT User Logo Pro Tools 110 – Pro Tools Production I

 

Pro Tools 110 course provides a more in depth and detailed look at the Pro Tools system above and beyond the knowledge you gained in the Pro Tools 101 course. The course covers all the key concepts and skills needed to operate a Pro Tools System. The material presented in this course along with the Pro Tools 101 course, provides the foundation to Pro Tools User Certification and for the later 200-series Pro Tools Music Production and Post Production courses.

Topics include:

  • Configuring your Studio and Session
  • Controlling Pro Tools using External Controllers
  • Managing Session data and media files
  • Recording MIDI and Audio, using Loop Recording and Auditioning
  • Understanding Timescale, Virtual Instruments, and Plug-Ins
  • Working with Elastic Audio
  • Edit and Quantize MIDI and Audio
  • Use audio editing and file management techniques
  • Enable, play, view, and edit automation data
  • Mixing using Sends and Returns, Plug-Ins, Master Faders, and groups

Prerequisites: Familiarity with concepts that include basic computer skills, some audio recording knowledge, and some Pro Tools familiarity. Pro Tools 101 'Introduction to Pro Tools' is intended as a prerequisite for taking the 110 Course. Passing of the 101 Exam is Required before taking the 110 Exam.

Pro Tools 110V – Live Sound Production I (on-site only)

 

This course focuses on the essential skills required to operate a VENUE system in a live sound environment. Coverage includes system operation using both the VENUE D-Show software and a VENUE control surface. Advanced students and working professionals may want to combine this course with VENUE 210V.

Topics include:

  • Understand the VENUE concept
  • Use D-Show control software
  • Operate a VENUE control surface
  • Enable Built-in effects processing
  • Understand TDM plug-ins and VENUE

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of live sound principles. Pro Tools 101 'Introduction to Pro Tools' is intended as a prerequisite for taking the 110V Course.

Pro Tools 130 - Pro Tools for Game Audio

(by request only)

This course provides students with exposure to the core skills, workflow, and concepts involved in creating and implementing game audio using Pro Tools systems. It covers basic sound design techniques along with example workflows. Session time is divided between demonstration and hands-on practice, with ample time to experiment with sample material.

Topics include:

  • Understanding game audio workflow - including common techniques for assessing, acquiring, recording, editing, mastering and implementing game audio
  • Working with dialog
  • Incorporating Foley
  • Adding sound effects
  • Working with background (ambient) sounds
  • Creating an interactive music score
  • Incorporating realistic vehicle sounds
  • Creating dynamic cinematics

Prerequisites: Completion of the Pro Tools 101 and 110 courses. This course is not required for Operator Certification.

Pro Tools 201 – Pro Tools Production II

 

Pro Tools 201 covers the core concepts and skills needed to operate a Pro Tools HD 10 system in a professional studio environment. The course continues to build on the fundamental concepts and topics covered in the Pro Tools 100-series of courses.

PT Expert Music Logo Pro Tools 310M – Advanced Music Production Techniques — certification eligibility

 

Pro Tools 310M focuses on the advanced operation of Pro Tools HD systems in a professional music production environment. This course will give a technical insight into Pro Tools both from a hardware and a software perspective. The goal of expert-level training and certification as a Pro Tools Expert is to equip a student with the competency required to run a Pro Tools HD system in a professional environment as proficiently as possible, therefore there is a Pro Tools HD system for each student.

  • Advanced Recording & Importing Audio - Includes project interchange

expert icon Pro Tools 310I – ICON Mixing Techniques— certification eligibility

Pro Tools 310I course focuses on advanced ICON mixing techniques in both music and post-production environments. This course provides comprehensive, hands-on D-Control/D-Command training, and is offered in several different training options, including expert-level certification. To attain expert-level ICON Mixer certification, you must complete the ICON training course and pass the optional hands-on certification exam.

Topics include:

  • Understand the ICON worksurface layout
  • Configure XMON for monitoring audio
  • Navigate tracks on the console
  • Employ editing, zooming and navigation techniques
  • Understand the ICON Channel Strip
  • Control plug-ins
  • Assign Custom Fader groups, plug-in mapping and Mix/Edit Groups using the console
  • Work with Surround Panners

Prerequisites: Completion of the Pro Tools 101, 110, 201, and 210 courses. Prior to undertaking 300-level coursework and/or subsequently testing for the Pro Tools ICON Mixer title, students must have successfully completed the above Avid-Certified 200-series courses and must have acquired a Pro Tools Operator Certification.

Course Length: Three days (24-30 course hours) + 1 day for ICON exam

The Avid Pro Tools 10 Certified User Exam is the first of several certification exams that allow you to become Avid Certified. The combined certifications offer an established and recognized goal for both academic users and industry professionals.

The Avid Pro Tools User Certification requires that you have the foundation of core skills, workflows, and concepts of digital audio editing on an Avid Pro Tools 10 system.

Prerequisites: It is recommended that all candidates complete the 101 and 110 courses prior to taking the exam, as the exam content is directly tied to the course content.

Exam Length: One Hour
Individual Price: $100.00 + $25.00 paid directly to Avid at time of exam

Prerequisites: It is recommended that all candidates complete the Pro Tools 101, 110, 201, and 210 (M or P) courses prior to taking the exam, as the exam content is directly tied to the course content. Access to the Pro Tools Operator certification exam requires that the User Certification exam has been passed.

Exam Length: One Hour
